Interim Consumption Information (ICI)

ICI stands for the interim consumption information for hot water and heating energy (in centrally heated residential properties). Due to the amended Heating Cost Ordinance (https://www.bmwk.de/Redaktion/DE/Gesetze/Energie/HeizkostenV.html), as of January 1, 2022, all radio- and remotely readable meters for heating and hot water in Germany are subject to the obligation of providing monthly consumption information to tenants. The goal is to reduce energy consumption for heating and hot water in residential buildings within the EU. As residents, you are to be transparently informed about your energy consumption on a monthly basis.
The legislator mandates a so-called information obligation for property owners. As your landlord, we are therefore obliged to send the information letters initially by post. We have implemented this since the beginning of the new legal situation by sending you the self-printed information by mail. Now, as a company, we have decided, for sustainability reasons, to discontinue printed mailings and to utilize the functions of the customer portals offered by the metering service providers Techem and Ista.

Who bears the costs of ICI and what costs are incurred?

If you provide us with your email address for forwarding to Techem or register independently with the Ista customer portal, no costs will be incurred. For all tenants who do not register, a service fee will be charged for the postal delivery of the information.

How do I access the metering service portals?

As soon as we have received a usable email address from you, you will automatically receive a short welcome email from Techem. In this email, you will find your personal access data for the monthly consumption information. With your personal access data, you can then register on Techem’s tenant portal and view your consumption data. Techem will notify you by email as soon as new consumption data is available for you. All tenants not yet registered with the metering service provider Ista will automatically receive a welcome letter with registration information. You can find access to the portal here.
